Dr. Monica Foitzik is the owner of Tradishen Japanese Acupuncture & Wellness. She began her journey as a healer by seeking to resolve her own chronic pain over a decade ago. After trying massage and chiropractic diligently, she was still struggling to find relief. Her dedicated massage therapist recommended seeing an acupuncturist next. Within one session, Dr. Monica was amazed by the results. Her pain subsided 80-90 percent! Over the next year, Dr. Monica began to continue acupuncture as part of her health regiment regularly. She found that she not only felt pain relief, but her emotions began to regulate, her GI symptoms improved and she began to experience more clarity.
After losing her job in publishing amidst the financial crisis in 2009, Dr. Monica began seeking a shift in her career. A simple conversation with her acupuncturist revealing that they both had the same educational background got Dr. Monica considering that maybe she, too, could become an acupuncturist! Thanks to Google, she quickly discovered one of the top schools in the nation was in San Diego and before she knew it, was enrolled by fall. Dr. Monica opened the doors to her practice in 2015 and has been expanding her practice ever since. She teaches Japanese acupuncture and facial rejuvenation privately and within the doctorate programs offered by local schools.
Dr. Monica is dedicated to expanding her knowledge and skillset to support her patients’ healing journeys. She incorporates her training in Japanese acupuncture and moxibustion, Kampo herbal medicine, massage, Reiki and mindset work to create a well-rounded approach. She insists on providing treatments that she enjoys receiving and encourages her patients to be advocates of their own health, leaning on holistic approaches first before seeking more strong, Western-based treatments. Additionally, she holds advanced accreditation via the FACE Program in facial rejuvenation and cosmetic acupuncture.
Her goal is to continue to pass on the traditions of her learning and practice to new practitioners as she frequently says, “There are not enough of us. There are still people who have never tried acupuncture.” In addition to her practice and teachings, she offers her services and support to non-profits in Southern California that support underserved communities and populations. She enjoys dancing, beach days and is welcoming the birth of her first child in Spring of 2023.
